We have updated our best secondary school ranking list based on the 2022 intake (which is the 2021 PSLE cohort). This is also the first time that actual achievement level scores are used in the ranking. Our last year’s ranking list was based on indicative AL scores.

When ranking the schools, we use their PSLE cut-off scores, along with their last known T-Score cut-offs.

If 2 schools have the same achievement level cut-off score (or cut-off point), we further rank them by the lowest AL score they accept, then by their previous year’s indicative AL cut-off, and finally by their last known PSLE T-score cut-off points (for 2020 intake).

Note that in the new Achievement Level (AL) system, the lower the overall score, the better.

In our ranking list below, schools offering 6-year programmes, i.e. Integrated Programme (IP) and International Baccalaureate (IB), are highlighted in bold.

Schools under the Special Assistance Plan (SAP) are also indicated. To get into SAP secondary schools, students in the top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take the Higher Chinese subject will be accorded an advantage in the posting. Refer to the list of SAP secondary schools in the section after the ranking list below.

If pupils with the same PSLE score are vying for limited places in the same SAP school, those with better HCL grades – in the order of distinction, merit and pass – will be allocated a place ahead of other pupils.

In the ranking list, if you see (D), (M) or (P), they respectively mean that the last student accepted at the cut-off took HCL and received a distinction, merit or pass.

Note also that there are some schools with affiliations, which means that pupils from the affiliated primary schools enjoy certain advantage in the posting exercise. For example, if you have a daughter, NYPS arguably offers the most value due to its affiliation with NYGH.

NYPS is the only school whose students enjoyed posting advantage to an IP school due to affiliation. The cut-off was 8(M). For students not from NYPS, the cut-off was 7(D).

The list of secondary schools with affiliations are listed at the bottom of this article (scroll down).

There are also some secondary schools which are affiliated with good JCs.

Also, check out last year’s ranking in our Secondary School Ranking (based on cut-off for 2021 intake) article to see how the schools’ positions have changed.

The last known PSLE T-Scores (the old system) are shown in brackets.

SAP SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Admission into SAP schools also takes into account the child’s Higher Chinese (HCL) grade. In the list of SAP schools below, the range of accepted scores from the most recent intake are included.

HCL Grade: (D) = Distinction, (M) = Merit, (P) = Pass. The HCL grades of the first and last student admitted into SAP schools are reflected in parentheses. If the first or last student did not take or pass HCL, no HCL grades will be shown. For example, Nan Chiau High School’s last admitted student got a total Achievement Level score of 12 and also scored a distinction for HCL. To further understand how this works, refer to the section “Use of Higher Chinese Language (HCL) for admission to SAP schools” on this MOE webpage.
