Get lucky to be rich

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

A small company hired a part-time masseuse in 1999. The job made her a multimillionaire just 5 years later. This is a true story (see NYT article). That company was Google. And that masseuse was Bonnie Brown. She exercised all her Google stock options in 2004, getting millions of (US) dollars in return. I just [...]

HDB Condo Ratio

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

It’s hard for people to compare income and net worth with each other. The easy (and sometimes superficial) way is to compare the stuff they wear, the cars they drive, and the type of housing they stay in. We know that driving a BMW and staying in a condo both exudes a certain snob factor. [...]

The number of tax payers with an annual income of more than a million dollars have increased to 2,121, screamed the headlines in the major newspapers recently. Calculate Net Worth and Benchmark It

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Your net worth is a measure of how wealthy you are. A person may be cash rich, while another may be cash poor. But because the cash poor person owns a property, both of them could have equal net worth. And do you know there’s a rule of thumb for telling whether your net worth [...]

One year after the Medisave Contribution Ceiling (MCC) was adjusted to $33,000, CPF has announced that MCC will be adjusted upwards again, this time to $33,500 effective 1 July 2007. If your Medisave account balance already stands at $33k, which is the previous cap, you’ll need to “top up” $500. This can be accomplished in [...]
