3 Best Credit Cards for Frequent Flyers in Singapore

1

The number of credit card options available to frequent flyers and the rewards they offer are constantly growing, which seems to be making it harder to pick the best one. While the right choice will depend on your traveling and spending habits, this article should help to find the card that is best tailored to the kind of spender and traveler that you are. These are given in no particular order and the choice between them is entirely subjective, but we have made an effort to highlight their best rewards.

Credit Cards

1. The Citibank PremierMiles Card (link)

The Citi PremierMiles Card offers a combination of quick accumulation of bonus miles and offers many lifestyle rewards in terms of dining and shopping. The minimum income requirement on this card is 80,000 SGD per year and it is one of the harder cards to qualify for on this list. You get free travel insurance of up to $1 million when you book flights and 1.2 Citi miles for every dollar spent locally and 2 Citi MIles for every dollar spent abroad. Additionally, you get 10,000 miles when you renew your membership yearly. Access to more than 600 airport lounges is also included. Outside travel, you get several dining discounts as well as 14% off at Shell and Esso petrol stations and upto 10% at outlets like Cold Storage and Starbucks.

2. The American Express® Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Ascend Credit Card (link)

This is one of the most popular cards among frequent travelers at the moment and replaces the Krisflyer Gold Card as the flagship card from Amex. You get 1 Krisflyer mile for every 1.20 SGD spent as well as 300 bonus miles for every additional $500 spent after the minimum of $1000 in spending. Upon the first transaction, you also receive a bonus of 5000 Krisflyer miles and you can also earn 2 miles for every $1.20 on select Singapore Airlines tickets. There are also additional opportunities to earn up to 35,000 bonus miles on specific spending milestones. There are also options for complimentary night’s stays at over 80 hotels and access to SATS premier and Plaza premier lounges. However, you will be accumulating these miles as reward points that need to be converted to Krisflyer miles before you can use them as such.

3. The DBS Altitude American Express Card (link)

With this card, you earn 1.2 miles for every dollar spent for the first $2000 dollars spent a month and then 1.6 miles for every dollar for any additional spending. Access to many lounges are also included. It also helps secure 0% installment plans at over 160 participating merchants and other lifestyle rewards like getting free GV movie tickets for DBS points. The minimum yearly income requirement is $80,000 for this card and the annual fee is waived for the first year.

There are also other options like the ANZ Travel Visa Signature Credit Card which is preferable for travel to Australia and New Zealand ( high mileage accumulations for tickets to those countries.) It is a great card for travel rewards but is average in other lifestyle rewards in a sense. However, there are plenty of resources available to do your prudent research and make sure you check out all the cards before committing to using one as a primary.
